The stable won two (the stable jockey won five but who’s counting...) on Thursday to drive the yearly total to 17. We’ve enjoyed a great run in March, inching closer to the year-end goal of 50 wins. After coming back from injury, Sheldon Russell has been a big part of our success and we're excited about his recent success. He dazzled us again with two polished rides on Thursday.

Dumbarton Farm’s first-time starter Dunraven Lad surprised bettors and the stable by winning a maiden special weight by a neck. The son of Broken Vow has been working a half mile in 53 and change, five eighths in 1:03 and today, he went much faster. Brilliant. We purchased him for $75,000 at Timonium as a yearling and weren’t quite sure what we had. Nothing like a debut winner.

With a bittersweet tinge, Captain Twitch won the finale easily. One of my most loyal patrons, Cary Jackson, purchased this son of Two Punch at Timonium. Sadly, Mr. Jackson passed away this winter and wasn’t here to see the maiden victory. It was just a $10,000 maiden claimer but felt like a lot more. Nancy Lee Farm’s Doctor James ran well to be third, he’ll win soon.

As for Sheldon, he clinched the riding title at the Laurel Winter Meet. With two days remaining, he leads Forest Boyce by 12 wins. We’re proud of him – and expecting egg sandwiches instead of doughnuts...or maybe all-you-can-eat from the Tastee Diner.
